FEATURED EVENTS
L.A. Theatre Works
While John Ball’s 1965 novel, In the Heat of the Night, takes place in Alabama during the 1960s as the country grappled with integration and an evolving acceptance of the Civil Rights Movement.
In the Heat of the Night remains shockingly emblematic of America in the 1960s, and how, almost half a century later, our nation is still conquering the demon of prejudice.

Performing social and political satire in two 45-minute acts of scripted scenes, music, and improvisation, THE SECOND CITY TOURING COMPANY is always original, daring, and hilarious. Their alumni list is a veritable "Who's Who" of comedy, including Peter Boyle, Bill Murray, John & Jim Belushi, Mike Myers, Steve Carell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, George Wendt, Ryan Stiles, Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, Horatio Sanz, Tim Meadows, Joan Rivers, John Candy, Bonnie Hunt, Stephen Colbert, Chris Farley, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, Jack McBrayer, Jason Sudeikis and so many more.

The Mikado
MIKADO is a comical operetta by Gilbert & Sullivan, sung in English and is a show that everyone will enjoy, directed by Vickie Reifsnider and under the musical direction of Dr. Melody Baggech, and also starring the ECU Chorale as the chorus under the direction of Dr. Steven Walker.
A year before this opera begins, Nanki-Poo, son the Mikado of Japan, fled his father's imperial court to escape marriage with Katisha, an elderly (not so attractive) lady. Disguised as a traveling musician, he met and fell in love with Yum-Yum, the young lady who is ordered to marry Ko-Ko, a man who was condemned for flirting.
Nanki-Poo rushes to Titipu, to find his true love, Yum-Yum but learns that Ko-Ko has been set free and assigned the Lord High Executioner, and is marrying Yum-Yum that very day. Meanwhile Ko-Ko receives word from the Mikado that Ko-Ko will be doomed if he does not perform a beheading.
Come and see how this comical operetta twists into many different directions, and who actually gets the girl.

Annie Moses Band
The Annie Moses Band is an indie ensemble of six instrumentalists and vocalists. Their cutting edge sound fuses Americana roots, folk rock, and jazz in stunning performances that feature strings, keyboards, guitar, and rhythm. The family that makes up the Annie Moses Band is musically diverse - their converging artistry on stage creates a unique and beloved style. With accolades that include 1200+ hours on PBS and recent debuts at Carnegie Hall and the Grand Ole Opry, the Annie Moses Band is bringing a distinctive sound to American music.

Woyzeck
Woyzeck (pronounced Voy-check) by George Buchner is the final offering of the ECU Theatre season, April 16, 17 and 18, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in the Chalmers Herman Theatre. This production features a translation and adaptation by Nicolas Udall. The original play written in 1833 was far ahead of its time in subject matter and form. The play is composed of over 20 short scenes which have appearared in various configurations over the years as Buchner never officailly finished the work.
The play tells the story an on army barber and his common-law wife. Because of their child, Woyzech signs up for experiments to augent his salary. In the primary experiment involved in the plot, Woyzeck has been put on a diet of nothing but peas. As the play progresses, we see Woyzeck fall into a type of schizophrenic madness, with tragic consequences.
At the time of this posting, original music by Dr. Ben Finely for the production is planned.
